Taking the Time to Teach
A big thank you to all of those who attended our last event.
We had some excellent points raised and we hope that the event was helpful to you.
For those that didn’t manage to make it, we thought we’d summarise a few of the things we discussed. Also, we’re planning on doing a similar event in the future to follow up on a number of these points, so if you see something that interests you, give us a comment or come along to the next event.
Many of you asked how to get into teaching in the first place. Although this varies from department to department, it’s best to find out who the people are that allocate AT slots and get in touch with them, as well as those who convene the modules themselves.
We also had discussions about how to deal with students with disabilities and how to provide students who were struggling with support. The student life centre is the first point of call in this case and they are excellent in helping both you and the students get the support needed.
Furthermore, we discussed effective techniques to get students to contribute to seminars and methods of increasing interaction and discussion. We will take up these points and the others mentioned above in the next event dealing with teaching.
As always, we hope you enjoyed the event and look forward to seeing you at the next one.
