Announcing an upcoming Doctoral Discussion:
The Ways & Whys of Public & Community Engagement as Doctoral Researchers
Join us for a *free & festively themed lunch* and lively discussion on this important topic on Tuesday 12 December, 12:30-14:00
Doctoral studies can certainly be busy. However, freeing ourselves from labs, offices, or the Hive itself is important! Our second Doctoral Discussion explores how our PhD researchers at Sussex academically engage with the public beyond the confines of our campus.
Public engagement has become an integral part of researcher development, with wide-ranging academic and personal benefits, as well as funding incentives. Nevertheless, it can be difficult to know the best ways to get involved.
In a less talked-about topic, many doctoral researchers also contribute to community initiatives, taking advantage of our diverse skill set and flexible working hours to ‘give back’ to the community in and around Brighton.
This event will provide a space for peer-led dialogue around both kinds of engagement, with four current PhD speakers and discussion topics including:
– How public engagement & community work can feed back into your research
– Tips on how and why to get involved
– Is it always worth investing your time into these initiatives?
-The wider impact & importance of researchers engaging with the public
The event will take place in the Careers Seminar Room in the Library. Book your place here, and join us for discussion & a festively-themed lunch!
