Support for Researchers: Isolation Edition + Updates on Events

Given the current circumstances surrounding Covid-19, we have suspended all face-to-face engagement and upcoming activities for the foreseeable future. This means that the next ‘Shut up and Write’ event as well as the UnConference 2.0 stands cancelled. We hope that all of you reading this are well and healthy, staying indoors and taking care.

This period of isolation should not mean that you are alone — we as the Hive want to continue to foster this community (in fact, now more than ever!) so we can remember that we are in this together. For this purpose, we have set up groups within an app called Slack. We invite you to join the app using this link here.

We have created some groups on it where you can all have conversations with your peers about wellbeing, news, games, or even just vent if you need to! It is natural to feel frustrated so we wanted to create a space to express and help each other through this.

We set up the app only yesterday and we already have some lovely engagement ideas on it! For instance, a student has chosen to set up a ‘reading therapy’ group where everyone can decide what they want to read and discuss! Some of you might want to hold informal and student-led mini versions of ‘Shut up and Write’ on Slack and have accountability buddies who can check-in on your progress — Slack allows for all of this. Feel free to use it as you’d like.

(Below is the existing list of discussion groups on it which can be modified by you)

We’d also love to hear from you about how this period has impacted your work (working from home, cancelled research trips, data collection impacted, etc.). Feel free to leave your comments here or write to us on researchhive@sussex.ac.uk.
