July Calendar

As this year continues to fly by, we bring you our final calendar for this academic year, and the final calendar from Aanchal, Devyn, and Louise, who will be leaving their posts at the end of this month!

Fizz at the Festival! 9th July 2pm Library Square

Join the three of us IN-PERSON to close the Festival of Doctoral Research! We are so pleased to be able to get together in-person after nearly 18 months apart.

We will have some drinks and gazebos in Library Square, where the Thesis on a Postcard competition will take place, judged by some representatives from across the University.

Not only will the competition winners be announced, with a cool £100 of vouchers for the winner, this will be a final goodbye to the current Scholars! Aanchal, Devyn and Louise would love the opportunity to see some of you before they pass the baton onto next years Scholars ☺️

We will be adhering to current Covid-19 guidelines, with track and trace available. We have some cover in case of rain and will be limiting the number of sign ups. Also, we ask that you please cancel your place if you can no longer make it so we have the best idea of numbers.

Breakfast Serial Writing

Bit.ly/breakfastserial

We continue with our Breakfast Serial Writing sessions every Tuesday 10-12. The Friday sessions will unfortuantely not run during July as we wind down for summer and to allow the current Scholars time to wrap up their roles. Please also note, we will take a break for the Festival of Doctoral Research.

Please continue to join us on Tuesdays through July to feel like you are working in the Hive. It is a space where you can feel some accountability and company for whatever you might be working on.

We have a fantastic group of supportive PGRs and new faces are always welcome, sign up at: bit.ly/breakfastserial if you aren’t already on the mailing list or drop us a line at researchhive@sussex.ac.uk.

The Hive Survey

Each year, the Hive asks for feedback from Doctoral Researchers. This helps inform the types of events and activities that will run in the following year and help us to manage the Hive space in a way that works best for you.

A big thank you to those of you who have already completed this years survey! We need as many of you as possible to contribute your views so the Hive will be a place that works best for you next year.

Our experience over the past 18months means there may be more of a blended approach to Hive events going forward but we want to hear your views about how this might work. Tell us about the types of in-person and online events you would like to see in the future.

To complete the survey, please go to bit.ly/hive_future

** we have extended the deadline until after the Festival of Doctoral Research

As we head into summer and draw our Hive posts to a close, we encourage you all to take a break at some point, and remind you to join us for our last hurrah on the 9th July in Library Square – a goodbye of sorts from the three of us and a celebration of Doctoral Research over the past year!
